The British Robin just has to be one of our favourites, appearing on many Christmas Cards through the years, and often seen dressed with a postman's bag and cap on in many a children's book.

How many pairs do you have in your garden?

It is doubtful you will have many pairs as these lovely little birds are very territorial, and quite ferocious. You can often see them jousting for position, or simply warding off the completion, and if you are lucky enough, they come real close, and just maybe you have a tame one who will take mealworms from your hand, or sit on the fence while you dig over some soil, revealing their next meal. Other birds may come down to freshly dug soil, but not until you move far enough away, whereas the plucky little Robin get right in their to see what's going on ... very often called the gardeners friend.

A favourite pose for singing :)

Spring time, and just before the blossom comes out, is a great time to capture the duelling pairs of Robin's along Shatton Lane. Sometimes sounding a little sad, but when you get pairs close by, it's just great to hear.

Treetops are great to see the territory

A beautiful sunny day and with the sun in the right position (God's lighting) ... gave the very best chance of getting a clear shot of this little chap balancing high at the very top of the tallest of conifers.

Not often, but I can climb tree trunks

Watching the great British Robin for over 60 years, and I cannot remember seeing them so keen on tree trunks. Down by the river is perhaps the reason, or with so many Treecreepers around, perhaps they copy them.

This youngster snapped a little grubby.

I don't mean he doesn't look smart ... just that he has a little grub in his beak. Love it when these little birds fluff up their feathers to make that nice soft looking round shape. Another image ideal for make a greeting card.

Definitely not the last post!

It's nearly always a great photo opportunity when the Robing lands on top of a post ... and many shots like these provide a great picture. All in focus on the post and the subject Robin, with a nice fuzzy background.

Listen to me Sing!

Lots of photos I take in our home garden, but this Robin sang so well whilst on a walk when visiting my mum in Devon. At the top of St Mary's Bay, before going below where we saw elegant Wheatears on the rocks.
