Diary
I try to keep these short diaries from the times when the camera, light and time are all available.
How many times have I been out on a short journey when the camera sis not by my side. So now I make sure the battery is charged up, leaving home with time to spare so there is no rushing around. Take the Kestrel for instance, photographed after a short walk one cloudy morning with some rain, so I sheltered away from the wind and rain, and the clouds separated to bring a fir amount of sunshine and welcome warmth.
It could have been that the Good Lord meant a blessing as I perched high above the valley as the Kestrel flew straight into the perfect position with perfect sunlight just below my level as it hovered, looking for breakfast!

Kestrel over Callow Bank
Thursday 6th June 2024
On the way back from an early morning prayer breakfast. At first stopping the car in driving rain, I took some Skylark fledglings north of Burbage Moor, and later walking to Callow Bank, above Hathersage captured this beautiful Kestrel.

The UK may well have more species per square mile, but North America has its stars. A Cedar Waxwing, taken just as the sun was setting after waiting patiently one rather hot summer evening.
Absolutely Fabulous!
Return of the Redstart Family
Monday 24th June 2024
Photographed in the summer of 2023, a pair of Redstarts were back, and busily taking food into their cosy home in the wall of an empty barn in a quiet backwater lane, just off the Hope Valley. It is a good sign to see these birds returning.
